Classification of Misdemeanors
In Arizona, there are three classifications of misdemeanors that you can be charged with. Depending on the clrime that you are being charged with, you may see increased fines or jail time.
The three primary classifications are:
- Class 1 Misdemeanor: These are the most serious misdemeanor charges, thus they have the steepest consequences. A guilty verdict can result in up to 6 months of jail time and a fine of up to $2,500. Arson, prostitution, and animal cruelty are examples of class 1 misdemeanors.
- Class 2 Misdemeanor: Class 2 misdemeanors are punishable by up to 4 months of jail time and a fine of $750. There are various types of class 2 misdemeanors. Intentionally damaging someone else’s property or reckless driving are examples of class 2 misdemeanor.
- Class 3 Misdemeanor: These are the least serious misdemeanor charges, thus they have the least severe consequences. Class 3 misdemeanors can result in up to 30 days of jail time and a $500 fine. Some examples of class 3 misdemeanors include loitering, trespassing, and assault.
