I-10. Interstate 10 runs through Avondale, and a lot of local traffic uses it every day to get to Phoenix and the rest of the West Valley. Freeway crashes are usually handled by Arizona DPS, not Avondale Police.

The big streets. Most city-street crashes happen on the main roads and at their signals: Dysart Road, Avondale Boulevard, 107th Avenue, McDowell Road, Van Buren Street and Buckeye Road.

99th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Just east of Avondale, in Phoenix, this intersection shows up again and again on the Maricopa Association of Governments' crash-risk lists. On 2015 to 2019 crash data it ranked 4th in the region (KJZZ, March 2021). On 2018 to 2022 data it ranked 10th, and KJZZ reported that nine of the ten highest-risk intersections were on the west side of Phoenix and in Glendale (KJZZ, November 2023).

What to do after a car accident in Avondale

1. Call 911. Report the crash and any injuries. If you can move safely, get out of traffic.
2. Get medical care the same day. Some injuries, like whiplash and concussions, show up hours later. A same-day visit also links your injuries to the crash.
3. Take photos. Get both cars, the plates, the damage, the signals, the lane markings and your injuries.
4. Get the other driver's information. Name, phone number, license, plate, insurance company and policy number. A photo of their insurance card works.

Rear-end crashes were the most common type of multi-vehicle crash in Arizona in 2024: 38,654 crashes, 37.51% of the total, including 12,221 injury crashes. Arizona also had 16,866 left-turn crashes, 127 of them fatal, and 18,182 angle crashes, often called T-bone crashes, 96 of them fatal (ADOT, 2024 Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts, Table 3-1). Crash reports, court and deadlines

Avondale Police usually investigate crashes on Avondale city streets. The department's Records Bureau handles accident report requests through the City of Avondale's online records request portal, and the City says a response typically comes within 10 business days. The Records Bureau's number is (623) 333-7002. Arizona DPS usually handles I-10; DPS reports are requested through the DPS Public Services Portal (psp.azdps.gov).
