Car crashes and injuries in Gilbert
In 2024, Gilbert had 2,914 reported crashes. That count includes 21 fatal crashes and 695 injury crashes. Those crashes killed 22 people and injured 951, and 123 crashes were alcohol-related (ADOT, 2024 Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts, Table 2-5, p. 13). That was more than in 2023, when Gilbert had 2,826 crashes, 13 people killed and 901 injured (ADOT, 2023 Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts, Table 2-5, p. 13). Gilbert is in Maricopa County. The county had 72.74% of all Arizona crashes in 2024 and 50.13% of fatal crashes (same report, p. 13). Statewide, Arizona had 121,107 crashes that year. They killed 1,228 people and injured 54,426 (Table 1-1, p. 2).
Behind each of those 951 injuries is a person with medical bills, missed work, and a car in the shop. Gilbert runs on its roads. Loop 202 (the Santan Freeway) and US 60 carry people in and out of town. Gilbert Road, Val Vista Drive, Higley Road, Lindsay Road, Warner Road, Ray Road, and Williams Field Road connect neighborhoods, schools, parks, the Heritage District, and SanTan Village.

Rear-end collisions
Stop-and-go traffic is part of driving in Gilbert. A driver glances at a phone at a red light on Gilbert Road, or misjudges a stop on Williams Field Road, and slams into the car ahead. Rear-end crashes were the most common type of multi-vehicle crash in Arizona in 2024: 38,654 crashes, or 37.51%. Motorcycle accidents
Riders use Val Vista Drive, Lindsay Road, and Loop 202 like everyone else. But a rider has no steel frame around them. When a driver turns left without seeing a motorcycle, the rider takes the full hit. In Arizona in 2024, 219 motorcycle riders and passengers were killed and 2,503 were injured (Table 1-1, p. 2). Riders also face bias. Some adjusters assume the rider was speeding or reckless. We build the case on evidence: the crash report, scene photos, damage to the bike, witness accounts, and experts when a case needs them. If the other side says you share some of the blame, Arizona uses pure comparative fault. Your damages are reduced by your share of fault. In most cases, your claim is not barred. Truck accidents
Delivery trucks, box trucks, and big rigs share Loop 202, US 60, and roads like Ray Road and Williams Field Road with Gilbert families. A loaded truck needs far more room to stop than a car, and a crash with one can change your life. In Arizona in 2024, 3,245 truck tractors (with or without semi-trailers) were involved in crashes. Of those, 106 were in fatal crashes and 679 were in injury crashes (Table 5-2, p. 27). Pedestrian and bicycle accidents
Gilbert has kids walking to school, families at parks, and walkers and cyclists on the Western Canal and other trails. In Arizona in 2024, 12.55% of pedestrian crashes were fatal. Pedestrians: 263 killed and 1,912 injured. Hit-and-run and uninsured drivers
Some drivers speed off. A car clips you in a SanTan Village parking lot, or a driver runs a light on Ray Road and keeps going. In Arizona in 2024, there were 16,136 hit-and-run crashes, about 13.3% of all crashes. They killed 86 people and injured 4,202 (Table 5-3, p. 28). Other drivers stay but have no insurance. The Insurance Research Council estimated that 10.6% of Arizona drivers were uninsured in 2023 (via the Insurance Information Institute). Even insured drivers may carry only Arizona's minimums: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $15,000 for property damage. That is where your own uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage can matter. Arizona insurers generally must offer UM and UIM coverage in writing, and the named insured can decline it. Dog bites and falls
Gilbert neighborhoods and parks are full of people walking dogs. When a dog bites, children are often the ones hurt. Under A.R.S. § 11-1025, a dog owner can be held liable when the dog bites someone in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the owner's property. Alcohol plays a large role in the worst crashes. In Arizona in 2024, alcohol-related crashes were 4.56% of all crashes but 27.93% of fatal crashes. They killed 347 people and injured 3,576 (Table 1-1 and Arizona at a Glance, p. 2). When a bar or restaurant sold alcohol to a driver who was obviously intoxicated, Arizona's liquor liability laws (A.R.S. § 4-311 and § 4-312) may allow a claim against that business too.
